We are seeking to fill a machinist apprentice position in our sharpening department. This can be Part Time or Full-Time dependent on the candidate’s experience and availability. There is also an opportunity for part-time to transition to full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and monitor tool and die quality, record results
  • Process reports of incoming and outgoing tooling
  • Complete the sharpening process from when tooling is received to when tooling is invoiced and shipped back to the customer
  • Disassembling, cleaning, inspection reports of sharpening male tools and female dies, and reassembling die tooling
  • Surface grinding and etching of tooling
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
  • Quality control
  • Troubleshooting and fixing mechanical issues
  • Packing and shipping small parts
  • Cleaning and organizing shop area.

Qualifications

  • Experienced surface grinder operation
  • Experienced Bridgeport milling operation
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Basic CAD experience
  • Ability to read blueprints and part drawings
  • Knowledge of properties of metal and other materials
  • Mathematic skills
  • Knowledge of reading calipers and gauges
  • Ability to work within a set production schedule to ensure customer needs are met in a timely manner
  • Knowledge of measuring tools such as tape, caliper, micrometer, and height gauge. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • The ability to troubleshoot equipment and make necessary adjustments
